The band was first formed on a cold winters night in September 2002. Christian (drums) had previously been living in America for a year, and at a get together of the two families, the Potters and the Gilliams. Christian and Joe (Vocals, rhythm guitar) jammed along to a couple of songs (later titled "A blind dog stares" and "Life sux"). After this the two of them decided to form a band. They both decided another guitarist was needed, Baz (Luke Barrett) was chosen and was keen to join this band. After one practice Jack Dunwoody (lead guitar) was asked to join the band. Two or three weeks later Luke was "sacked" for not turning up to a practice, which left the three band members on their own for about six months. In these six months the band had their first gig in Mr. Trevs room (under one of their many first, crapy names.) After this Luke came back into the band as a temperary member, who was then asked to be in the band perminantly. The original line up, Joe, Christian, Jack and Baz were collectivly known as "The Kronicles"

It's funny how quickly bands can change and progress and how sometimes, things seem to click. Breaking The Girl began almost two years ago, as a school band, although, by that time, the roots of the band were still growing. By this time, they had only appeared on a handful of occasions around the local scene, including gigs at Highcliffe youth club. However, it was on one of their larger gigs, at Longs in Lymington, when Duff was asked to provide bass where there had previously been none. The result: the current line-up as it is today , as he was draughted in to strengthen the sound, at the expense of the third guitarist.

What was to follow was a series of low-key gigs, in which the band’s sound was able to progress and blossom, ironically, under the name of “Flower Of Algeron”. Each member was able to add something special to the music: Christian with strong beats and precision fills, Jack with mind-blowing solos, Duff with ground shaking rhythms and Joe, with a commanding and individual voice that delivered beautifully constructed lyrics. The foundations had been laid, and were cemented with the name “Breaking The Girl“, after the Chili Peppers song.

The boy’s big break came after a memorable and well received show at the Highcliffe School Valentines Ball. This small taste of what Breaking The Girl were capable of producing left everyone hungry for more, none more so than the band themselves, who worked hard at perfecting both their musical and live performances. Finally, the crowning point of the band’s career to date was being asked to play at the infamous Brock Rock festival, and being moved up the bill from second on to second to last, a clear reflection of the band’s ability. Even to this day, all their gigs are compared to that one.

So what next? Curently, the band are armed with a 5 track demo which is already doing the circuits around the major labels and promotional companies, waiting for word. Until then the band themselves are just as happy playing the same energetic shows to the same energetic fans, and doing what they love the most, making music and annoying their neighbours. Let’s wait and see what happens in a years time, because it’s funny how quickly bands can change and progress.
